There’s a part of our brain whose job is to kick in when it feels that our life is in some sort of crisis or emergency. It’s popularly known as the Fight, Flight or Freeze part, it’s very primitive and it’s there to ensure our survival. Sometimes however, it will kick in when we don’t want it to and, in fact, at times when it’s just not appropriate; when there is no threat, emergency or crisis. This usually happens as a result of a build-up of stress in our lives, coupled with our inability to process that stress. And sometimes this unwanted residue comes in the form of anxiety or panic. It’s the ‘Flight’ part of the system and it’s the brain’s way of telling us to do something!
